Meet the Agent:

Julia Ryan with Peace Sotheby’s International Realty in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.

For many, Pawleys Island represents a summer escape tailor-made for long weekends, beach days, and a much-needed break from city life. For Julia Ryan, this coastal charmer is more than a seasonal retreat—it’s a year-round oasis that she calls home.

The broker describes Georgetown as a laid-back and friendly community “like no other”—one rich in natural beauty and protected lands. From oak-lined plantations to the historic downtown Georgetown riverfront on over the Winyah Bay to Pawleys Island spreading from the river and back through ricefields, creeks, marsh and stretches of awe-inspiring coastal views with miles of photogenic beaches all the way up to Murrells Inlet, a small fishing village with some of the finest estuary views on the East coast.

How did you find yourself in the real estate business?

I was initially drawn to real estate because I love houses— and in Pawleys Island it’s hard not to be inspired by such a wondrous place and want to share our community with the world.

Where are you from originally, and what is your personal connection to Pawleys Island?

I’m originally from Richmond, Virginia but my dad’s family has been coming to Pawleys for generations. We used to come here every summer with my grandparents when I was growing up. Even as a child I knew there was something special about this area. I attended the College of Charleston and made my way up the road with my now-husband, a Pawleys Island native.

What do you enjoy most about living / working in Pawleys Island?

The people. The landscape. There is something truly unique about our little coastal community. Everyone comes together so naturally. And the views—marsh, ricefields, oak trees, creek, river, beach. There is literally beauty all around.

What are some of your favorite restaurants or shops in Pawleys Island?

My favorite spots are Bisqit and Bistro! Hands down! The Joggling Board is always so bright and happy and the women who work there are the best! It’s an easy place to shop for myself and the kids all in one place!

For someone looking to create the ultimate beach lifestyle, where do you recommend they shop for home decor, art and garden?

Online favorites include One Kings Lane, and Serena and Lily.
